The power of research

According to the latest research, horses susceptible to equine myopathy (Tying-up, PSSM), laminitis, the Metabolic or the Cushing’s Syndrome should only be fed a highly limited amount of non-structural carbohydrates such as grain starch and sugar. Equigard has been specifically designed to address this problem and contains approx. 80% less starch and sugar than oats. It has been especially formulated to have a very low energy content and is the perfect feed as weight-reducing diet for overweight horses, combined with a reduced access to grazing. The increased energy requirement of performance horses should preferably be met using native oil, oil seeds and quickly fermenting fibres for which we recommend a combined feed ration comprising Struktur-Energetikum, Alfalfa Mix and HippoLinol. Equigard is also the perfect feed for horses on stall rest if they face the problem of gaining weight too fast.

Regulating the fat and sugar metabolism

Apart from its balanced mineral content, Equigard also features a balanced range of functional micronutrients like magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, Ω-3 fatty acids, lecithin and antioxidants such as vitamin E and fruit flavonoids that are particularly effective in stabilizing the insulin sensitivity, the carbohydrate and fat metabolism. Equigard contains a considerably increased content in highly-digestible, structured carbohydrates and valuable fatty acids.
